1. Work with flash cards showing geometric shapes.
2. Use flash cards for addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division facts.
3. Use flash cards for learning to tell time on digital or regular clocks.
4. Use flash cards which teach mathematics symbols such as +, =, %, x, etc.
5. Use flash cards which show number patterns.
6. Have cipher downs.
7. Children enjoy counting. Consider the following:
a. Count by ones.
b. Count by ones. Whisper some numbers and say others out loud.
Example: Say the ones in bold print out loud and whisper the ones in
regular print.

8. Use number trails. Prepare five inch by eight inch cards with number trails appropriate to the age level of the students. Draw a card from the stack and use the idea on it to fill a "crack" of time. Note the date when the card was used with the children. Distractions will occur and special needs will arise during transition time. It is easy for the teacher to lose his or her place or train of thought. Write out the entire set of problems and answers.
