Transitional Activities for Music

1. Sing favorite songs.

2. Have children repeat regular and irregular rhythm patterns.

3. Listen to music while waiting.

4. Sing action songs. (Example: "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toe")

5. Provide an electronic piano with earphones. Let individuals practice music with the sound audible only to the user.

6. Prepare flash cards with pictures of instruments. Have children identify the instruments.

7. Sometimes working noise can be irritating to group members. Use music as a means of "covering" other noises which are impossible to avoid. The music can help create a pleasant environment in which to work.

8. Do movements in time to music.

9. Use music learning centers.

10. Read about famous musicians.

11. Write original music.
