Dr. Martin Luther King Junior

Dr. Martin Luther King Junior expressed the dreams of many people.

1. Let the puppet share some of the hopes and dreams he had. Quotations from speeches could be written on the back of the puppet to help the user talk about ideas he shared.

2. Have the puppet share the history of his life. What jobs and careers did he have? What roles did he have at different times? Who inspired him?

3. Let contemporary figures in society talk with the puppet.

4. Who were the members of his family? Let the puppet talk with others in his family.

5. What were his religious beliefs? Have the puppet tell about the role of faith in Martin Luther King's life.

6. Create puppets that represent people that carry on his ideas today. Have these puppets tell about what they try to do.

7. Have the puppet tell about self-esteem and what it meant. Why was and is self esteem important?

8. Use maps along with the puppet to show where Dr. King lived and traveled.

9. Create a play in which Dr. King and others portray a significant event in his life.

10. Have the audience ask the puppet questions about his life.

11. Have a tape of his "I Have a Dream Speech." Act it out.

12. Read poetry and stories or sing music about Dr. King and use the puppet with the stories.

13. Have the puppet talk about feelings in times of danger.

14. Role-play the meaning of prejudice. Make other puppets for figures such as Rosa Parks. Let them tell of their experiences.

15. Make a time line to go with stories that are dramatized.

16. Use puppets representing various cultural groups to talk about the ideas shared by Dr. King.
