Ways to Use Puppets in Physical Education

Hand puppets cannot simulate all of the movements made by the human body but they can be used in exciting ways in physical education.

1. Favorite puppets can be used to give directions for games or creative movement activities.

2. Children with limited movement capabilities may be able to manipulate simple puppets.

3. Puppets can tell about new games and sports.

4. Culturally different games or dances might be introduced by a puppet dressed in garb of a particular area.

5. Reports about sports events can be shared by puppets.

6. Puppets can be used to encourage children to explore movements and develop to their fullest potential.

7. Rules and precautions can be discussed by puppets.

8. Puppets can share ways in which healthy diets and exercise benefit humans.

9. Misuse of drugs and effects on the body's ability to perform can be discussed by puppets.

10. Life-sized puppets often serve as cheerleaders at sports events. Students may want to share stories about those which they have seen and then design and use their own.

11. Puppet plays can be written about ball games, races, and other sports events. The plays can then be shared with others.
