Months

1. Examine poetry and stories about various months of the year.

2. Give children a sheet of paper with names of months. Have them write a poem in which they make a sentence to go with each name.

3. Make a list of things which come in the mail once a month. (Bills, publications, etc.)

4. Keep a record of something important for a period of one month.

5. Learn the names of the months in another language.

6. Research the history of the naming of the months. (Example - August - named after Augustus - first Roman Emperor)

7. Watch the moon for one month. Draw its phases.

8. Examine many different calendars which show the months of the year. Learn when the months of various cultures begin and end and what the names of some of the months are.

9. Draw illustrations to go with each month of the year. Make personal calendars to go with the illustrations.

10. Identify living things which exist for about one month. Talk about the contributions these plants or animals make in that period of time.

11. Identify animals or plants which take approximately one month to develop. Talk about the changes which take place during that period of time.

12. Make time lines which represent one month. Draw or write items on the time lines.

13. Have children choose their favorite month. Write stories or draw pictures about that month.

14. Make a bar graph showing the number of days in each month. Compare the length of the months.

15. Make a paper chain with one link for each month.

16. Provide each child with an empty egg carton. Place objects, words, or illustrations for each month in the twelve sections.

17. Make a mobile on which the months of the year are represented.
