Why may we need to memorize or remember some dates or events? Open-ended discussions based on opinions may not be as beneficial to participants as discussions based on previously designated topics for which research or learning have been done. Likewise, in order to understand and formulate generalizations and conclusions about time we need to have facts and concepts with which we can work. A few specific dates or cluster date-events are important for children to learn. Work with them in choosing these dates and events. Build background information for them and learn with the children. This will be more effective than learning a list of dates chosen by the teacher and memorized for the teacher.
