Common Blue Violet
Viola papilionacea
VIOLACEAE (Violet Family)
![]() |
This plant is found in meadows and moist woods. The flowers are usually blue but may be bluish white or streaked. The flowers have five petals. The lower petal is a little larger than the others. Insects land on this petal as they come to feed. Flower stems grow from a rosette of heart-shaped, long-stalked leaves.
The fruit is a small dry capsule that splits into three parts. Each part has a tiny row of seeds.
