This plant belongs to the same family as many common geraniums. It grows in moist woods and meadows.

The plant has five-parted hairy leaves. It has a tough underground stem or rhizome.

The rose-pink flowers bloom in spring and early summer. The fruits are shaped like a crane's bill and have five spoon-shaped sections. When ripe they contract and eject the seeds many feet away.
